The British love for literature and theatre is long lasting and intense. From William Shakespeare, who is often regarding as one of the all-time play writing greats, through to the modern world’s obsession with Harry Potter the English language has been manipulated played with and poured out onto pages for hundreds of years. Samuel Richardson was credited with inventing the modern novel in 18th Century, and since then the island has produced some stunning novelists such as George Orwell, Charles Dickens, Thomas Hardy, D. H. Lawrence, J.R.R. Tolkien, Jane Austen and Virginia Woolf.
